Bob Dobbs is a Frank Zappa researcher and scholar of Marshall McLuhan (the famous canadian sociologist, philosopher, literary critic and professor). McLuhan’s fame is linked to his innovative interpretation of the effects produced by communication both on the behavior of individuals and on society as a whole.
The studies on Zappa and McLuhan, alone, would be enough to understand the commitment and importance of Bob Dobbs’ work. But his story goes far beyond all this.
I discovered it while reading an interview with Bob by Sara Diamond on December 6, 1997, at the Banff Arts Center. The Banff Center for Arts and Creativity is an arts and culture educational institution in Banff, Alberta, Canada. It offers arts programs in the performing and fine arts, as well as leadership training.
I report a summary of this long interview, focused on two themes: the Android Meme and Holeopathic Pharmakeia Do not run away and do not be impressed by ‘strange’ terms. The meaning of these themes concerns all of us, involves everyone.
At the end of this article, there is an interesting detail regarding Frank Zappa and his fight against cancer.
Born in Paris, Bob Dobbs worked for decades with international intelligence agencies after World War II. The best presentation of his work – we read in the interview – is contained in the book, “Phatic Communion with Bob Dobbs”. One of his great victories is related to the activity of the Android Meme whose traces were published in the magazine, Flipside.
Dobbs associates the Android Meme with what Gayatri calls “financial capitalism.” The Android Meme is what you are: one fifth chip, one fifth neuron, one fifth astral body, one fifth screen (video, TV), and one fifth archetype.”
The second, larger and more complex theme is the Holeopathic Pharmakeia, which Dobbs connects to Derrida’s use of “pharmakon” in his early writings, through which he intends to expose the quadrophrenic or tetrad aspect of the pharmakon.
The tetradic process, known through McLuhan, consists of this: “Any new technology, when it creates an environment through its widespread use, extends certain internal/external characteristics of human flesh. Obsolete characteristics of previous environments are recovered. The recovery factor intervenes so that there is an element in the (binary) reversal that is confused and complicated by the recovery until the transition to a completely new technology, which restarts the cycle.”
Where did the Android Meme come from? Dobbs defines “techne” as “Second Nature”, the one created by humans. “Humans create environments that eventually evolve into tetradic laws. Humans think that technologies are eating them.” Why? Bob thinks that “the factor that changed Second Nature was the phonetic alphabet. Writing overtook spoken language and body language. Phonetic writing, in particular, upset the balance and created abstract space. So it started to consume flesh. In reality, it is not the flesh that is affected but the crowd effect of the language medium, the technology of language. This crowd effect is Second Nature.”
“Going forward, with the telegraph you get electrical simultaneity, and that was the first software environment to consume the industrial hardware environment. Going forward from the telegraph and subsequent electrical technologies, you get television, which, being a simultaneous transmission of sight and sound, of kinetic and proprioceptive sensations, immediately consumed the electrical crowd. In 1950, television becomes an environment. Later, the satellite turned out to be the first man-made environment that simulated First Nature: an environment in which humans could live. So the unconscious effect of the satellite environment as it developed in the 1960s was the fusion of ‘First’ and ‘Second Nature.’
“From ’57 to ’67 the media is an actor in the Global Theater – in a state of panic. Working for the intelligence agencies (which were not limited to the ‘World Government’, but more related to the ‘Solar Government’. That’s what I worked with, the Solar Government. I had to stand in the corner and watch all this. And so we would study the media panic, as these media – former crowd actors who had been eaten by television and then recovered by satellite, as we sat surveilling them – were acting out the tetrad process among themselves.
“In ’67 the satellite environment consumed itself by collapsing into a new phenomenon; it actually ‘died’. These machines and crowds ‘died’ from ’67 to ’77, so the human beings thought they had an electric autonomy for about ten years, because the machines were no longer there – without knowing that the process was not finished.
“The technology that organized the post-satellite situation was the chip – a relic of the computer, which came before the satellite – capable of organizing pattern recognition between all these different ‘dead’ media and ‘dead’ crowds. These ‘dead’ media archetypes, tiny entities, decided that if the satellite unconscious was the projection of the merging of ‘First’ and ‘Second Nature’, then perhaps THEY could become ‘First Nature’. Thus, the Android Meme was born.
“How did it happen? These machines were reincarnated. Believe it or not, they were reincarnated from ’77 to ’90. An example of this, in the popular unconscious, is ‘BLADE RUNNER’, which is not the Android Meme. But if you think about what I said (we are one fifth neuron, one fifth chip, one fifth astral body, one fifth television screen, and one fifth archetype), then here we have a situation where the First Nature is ‘depressed’ and would perceive itself as being consumed.
“The tetradic aspect of the transition to a completely new form, to a new culture, would occur by 1990. This ‘miracle’ occurred with the announcement by Pons & Fleischmann in Utah, on March 23, 1989, of the achievement of ‘cold fusion’: the phenomenon of solar energy at room temperature. This is an example of the fusion between First and Second Nature, an important topic that may raise questions. The fact that cold fusion can create more energy than it can contain – that which is needed to make it happen – is a kind of immortality… which is the chief characteristic of ‘First Nature.’ Nothing kills First Nature.
“In my work with the Solar Government, I had to go through the process of Xenochrony – which is not synchronization but a process that attempts NOT to synchronize – trying to be an agitator, a disruptor of the development of the Android Meme. That situation required all kinds of incredible moves, which I was forced to make. But, in 1977 – when First Nature had given up, Second Nature was ‘dead’, and the Android Meme was about to be reincarnated – all of this made Connie and me the last people willing to resist.
“Now comes Holeopathy, a combination/fusion of homeopathy (a dilution process) and the hologram.
Suddenly, we discovered something related to ‘Holeopathic Pharmakeia’. Now we are in New York City to present to the world a proven and effective treatment for AIDS, for all the major diseases that we know of. We are also working successfully on cancer.” (Bob Dobbs)
In an interview published in Journal Frankfurt No. 19, September 1992, Frank Zappa was asked: “Is it true that you are being treated by a naturopath?”.Zappa replied, “Yes, it is true. I am being treated by an American naturopath, without drugs. It is the ancient method of laying on of hands and is based on the transmission of energy and electricity. I believe in it, so it helps me. If it were up to the doctors, I would already be dead. They gave me six months. That was two years ago.”
Reading about Holeopathic Pharmakeia, I asked Bob Dobbs if Frank had ever tried this method of healing.
Bob wrote back: “We offered our successful AIDS treatment to Gail in the spring of 1993, hoping it would work on Frank’s cancer. We never heard back from Gail, and I’m sorry.”
The treatment method in question was created by Walter Fischman and Dr. Carolyn Dean, wife of Bob Dobbs. Together with a colleague, Carolyn opened a clinic in Manhattan and had great success with victims of AIDS and other diseases until late 1997, when the medical establishment illegally closed the clinic.
Today, a Purdue University study shows that the current method (circulating ionized magnesium products) is absorbed into the cell at unprecedented sizes, called PICO sizes:

Il processo tetradico, noto grazie a McLuhan, consiste in questo: “Qualsiasi nuova tecnologia, quando crea un ambiente tramite il suo uso diffuso, estende certe caratteristiche interne/esterne della carne umana. Caratteristiche obsolete degli ambienti precedenti vengono recuperate. Il fattore di recupero interviene, creando un elemento nella reversibilità (binaria) che si confonde e si complica con il recupero fino alla transizione verso una tecnologia completamente nuova, che riavvia il ciclo.”
Da dove proviene l’Android Meme?Dobbs definisce la “techne” come una “Seconda Natura,” quella creata dagli esseri umani. “Gli esseri umani creano ambienti che alla fine evolvono in leggi tetradiche. Gli esseri umani pensano che le tecnologie li stiano consumando.” Perché?
Bob pensa che “il fattore che ha cambiato la Seconda Natura è stato l’alfabeto fonetico. La scrittura ha soppiantato il linguaggio parlato e il linguaggio corporeo. La scrittura fonetica, in particolare, ha sconvolto l’equilibrio e creato uno spazio astratto, iniziando a consumare la carne. In realtà, non è la carne ad essere colpita, ma l’effetto di massa del medium linguistico, la tecnologia del linguaggio. Questo effetto di massa è la Seconda Natura.”
“Andando avanti, con il telegrafo si ottiene la simultaneità elettrica, che è stato il primo ambiente software a consumare l’ambiente hardware industriale. Andando avanti, dal telegrafo e dalle tecnologie elettriche successive si arriva alla televisione, che, essendo una trasmissione simultanea di immagini e suoni, di sensazioni cinetiche e propriocettive, ha immediatamente consumato l’effetto di massa elettrico. Nel 1950, la televisione diventa un ambiente. Più tardi, il satellite si è rivelato il primo ambiente artificiale creato dall’uomo che simulava la Prima Natura: un ambiente in cui gli esseri umani potevano vivere. L’effetto inconscio dell’ambiente satellitare, sviluppatosi negli anni ’60, è stata la fusione tra ‘Prima’ e ‘Seconda Natura.’
“Dal ’57 al ’67 i media sono attori nel Teatro Globale – in uno stato di panico. Lavorando per le agenzie di intelligence (che non erano limitate al ‘Governo Mondiale’, ma più collegate al ‘Governo Solare’, con cui ho collaborato) dovevo stare in disparte e osservare tutto questo. E così studiavamo il panico dei media, poiché questi media – ex attori delle masse, che erano stati consumati dalla televisione e poi recuperati dal satellite, mentre li monitoravamo – stavano mettendo in scena il processo tetradico tra di loro.
“Nel ’67 l’ambiente satellitare si è consumato collassando in un nuovo fenomeno; è effettivamente ‘morto’. Queste macchine e masse sono ‘morte’ dal ’67 al ’77, quindi gli esseri umani hanno pensato di avere un’autonomia elettrica per circa dieci anni, poiché le macchine non c’erano più – senza sapere che il processo non era ancora terminato.
“La tecnologia che ha organizzato la situazione post-satellite è stato il chip – un reperto del computer, che precedeva il satellite – capace di organizzare il riconoscimento di schemi tra tutti questi diversi media ‘morti’ e folle ‘morte’. Questi archetipi di media ‘morti’, minuscole entità, hanno deciso che, se l’inconscio del satellite era la proiezione della fusione tra la ‘Prima’ e la ‘Seconda Natura’, allora forse LORO potevano diventare la ‘Prima Natura’. Così è nato l’Android Meme.
“Come è successo? Queste macchine sono state reincarnate. Che ci crediate o no, sono state reincarnate dal ’77 al ’90. Un esempio di questo, nell’inconscio collettivo, è ‘BLADE RUNNER’, che però non rappresenta l’Android Meme. Ma se pensate a ciò che ho detto (siamo per un quinto neurone, per un quinto chip, per un quinto corpo astrale, per un quinto schermo televisivo e per un quinto archetipo), allora qui abbiamo una situazione in cui la Prima Natura è ‘depressa’ e percepisce sé stessa come se fosse consumata.
“L’aspetto tetradico della transizione verso una forma completamente nuova, verso una nuova cultura, si sarebbe verificato entro il 1990. Questo ‘miracolo’ si è concretizzato con l’annuncio di Pons e Fleischmann nello Utah, il 23 marzo 1989, riguardo al raggiungimento della ‘fusione fredda’: il fenomeno dell’energia solare a temperatura ambiente. Questo è un esempio della fusione tra Prima e Seconda Natura, un argomento importante che potrebbe sollevare domande. Il fatto che la fusione fredda possa generare più energia di quanta ne serva per farla accadere è una sorta di immortalità… che è la caratteristica principale della ‘Prima Natura.’ Nulla può distruggere la Prima Natura.
“Nel mio lavoro con il Governo Solare, ho dovuto affrontare il processo di Xenochrony – che non è sincronizzazione, ma un processo che tenta di NON sincronizzarsi – cercando di essere un agitatore, un disturbatore dello sviluppo dell’Android Meme. Questa situazione richiedeva ogni sorta di mosse incredibili, che sono stato costretto a compiere. Ma, nel 1977 – quando la Prima Natura si era arresa, la Seconda Natura era ‘morta’ e l’Android Meme stava per essere reincarnato – tutto questo rese Connie e me le ultime persone disposte a resistere.
“Ora arriva la Holeopatia, una combinazione/fusione di omeopatia (un processo di diluizione) e ologramma.
Improvvisamente, abbiamo scoperto qualcosa legato alla ‘Holeopathic Pharmakeia’. Ora siamo a New York City per presentare al mondo un trattamento comprovato ed efficace per l’AIDS e per tutte le principali malattie che conosciamo. Stiamo anche lavorando con successo sul cancro.” (Bob Dobbs)
In un’intervista pubblicata nel Journal Frankfurt n. 19, settembre 1992, a Frank Zappa fu chiesto: “È vero che sei in cura da un naturopata?”. Zappa rispose: “Sì, è vero. Sono in cura da un naturopata americano, senza farmaci. È l’antico metodo dell’imposizione delle mani e si basa sulla trasmissione di energia ed elettricità. Ci credo, quindi mi aiuta. Se fosse dipeso dai medici, sarei già morto. Mi avevano dato sei mesi di vita. Questo accadeva due anni fa.”
Leggendo della Holeopathic Pharmakeia, ho chiesto a Bob Dobbs se Frank avesse mai provato questo metodo di cura.
Bob ha risposto: “Abbiamo offerto il nostro trattamento efficace per l’AIDS a Gail nella primavera del 1993, sperando che funzionasse per il cancro di Frank. Non abbiamo mai ricevuto risposta da Gail e mi dispiace.”
Il metodo di trattamento in questione è stato creato da Walter Fischman e dalla dottoressa Carolyn Dean, moglie di Bob Dobbs.
Insieme ad un collega, Carolyn ha aperto una clinica a Manhattan, ottenendo un grande successo con vittime di AIDS e altre malattie fino alla fine del 1997, quando l’establishment medico ha chiuso illegalmente la clinica.
Oggi, uno studio della Purdue University mostra che il metodo attuale (prodotti di magnesio ionizzato circolante) viene assorbito nella cellula in dimensioni senza precedenti, chiamate PICO sizes:
