    Questo bootleg presenta Franz Zappa e la sua band in diretta dal programma televisivo ‘Piknik’, Uddel (Paesi Bassi) del 18 giugno 1970 trasmesso su VPRO TV (Vrijzinnig Protestantse Radio Omroep).
    Dopo il moderato successo di Burnt Weeny Sandwich e Weasels Ripped My Flesh – entrambi registrati alla fine degli anni ’60 e pubblicati nel 1970 – i Mothers of Invention originali si erano sciolti. Zappa trasformò la band in The Mothers che durò solo sette mesi. La nuova band era composta da Aynsley Dunbar, George Duke, Ian Underwood, Jeff Simmons, Flo & Eddie (alias Howard Kaylan e Mark Volman).

    Attraverso la VPRO TV alcuni giovani underground creavano programmi televisivi. Realizzarono anche un programma musicale chiamato “Hoepla” con ragazze nude, che provocò uno scandalo.
    Uno degli ideatori del programma era Rudolf Kiers, che realizzò anche dei documentari su Zappa, uno dei quali è uscito con il titolo True Story of 200 Motels.
    I programmi “Piknik” venivano filmati in diretta, all’aperto: contenevano informazioni, interviste e musica.

    Il programma venne trasmesso da un sito segreto. Le persone invitate vennero trasportate in autobus come in una sorta di “Magical Mystery Tour” con destinazione sconosciuta. Gli autobus partivano da Amsterdam (dall’indirizzo di redazione della rivista Aloha, Alexander Boersstraat 20 e Fantasio II, Haarlemmerhouttuinen). Erano tutti prenotati e gli ospiti venivano selezionati da organizzazioni come Provadya. Le persone interessate venivano portate in loco quasi bendate: salivano su un autobus che non sapevano dove li avrebbe portati, da qualche parte in Olanda.

    Il viso di Zappa era decisamente piccolo, in qualche modo accentuato dai capelli ricci legati a coda di cavallo sul collo. Occhi scuri, che quel pomeriggio variavano dall’espressione amichevole a quella umoristica, ironica e assente. Baffi scuri e folti con strisce laterali verticali sotto un leggero naso a uncino. Sotto il labbro inferiore una piccola barba che sembrava essere un po’ fuori centro. Intorno al collo una sottile catena con due maglie metalliche. Con un maglione viola sedeva lì, dietro il bancone che formava una solida barriera tra lui e la stampa olandese, pronto a rispondere alla montagna di domande.
    In quel live, Zappa avrebbe eseguito due canzoni non note in Olanda: Giraffe e Sharleena.
    Circa 100 fan hanno atteso quel pomeriggio Zappa e le sue Mothers che si sono esibiti in un’ora e mezza di concerto a Fantasio II, in un edificio usato principalmente come dormitorio.
